Venice Biennale Art Fair

Dive into the city of art

Wake up to the smell of espresso before joining your personal art guide, who will walk you through the exhibition and the city’s historical spots.

Get lost in the canals for some painting-grade pictures, enjoy the buzz around San Marco square, shop for glass art and carnival masks before enjoying an Aperol Spritz-based aperitivo near Rialto bridge. They make many different versions of Spritz in the area – try the one with Cynar, made with an aromatic artichoke liqueur!

Take a day trip to the colourful Murano and Burano islands and check out how they make glass and lace – the traditional way.

What’s included

· Luxury accommodation in the heart of Venice - choose between a luxury renaissance apartment with a view on the canal, a villa or a resort

· Welcome pack, with useful goodies for your trip

· Private tour/art guide

· Transfers to/from airport. Excludes public transport (ferry)

A few words on the Biennale

The Art Biennale, a contemporary visual art exhibition and so called because it is held biennially (in odd-numbered years), focuses on contemporary art and also includes events for art, contemporary dance, architecture, cinema and theatre.

The formal Biennale is based at a park, the Giardini. The Giardini includes a large exhibition hall that houses a themed exhibition curated by the Biennale's director.

A fringe event for younger artists and artists of a national origin not represented by the permanent national pavilions is usually staged in the Arsenale and has become part of the formal biennale programme. The Giardini houses 30 permanent national pavilions. Alongside the Central Pavilion, the Giardini are occupied by a further 29 pavilions built at different periods by the various countries participating in the Biennale. The pavilions are the property of the individual countries and are managed by their ministries of culture.

Venice Biennale 2019

The Venice Art Biennale 2019 runs from May 11 until November 24 and this year’s edition has been entitled ‘May You Live In Interesting Times‘. The event defines a general approach to making art and highlights the social importance of art as a means to induce pleasure and critical thinking.

The title is an expression of the English language long mistakenly attributed to an ancient Chinese curse, which evokes periods of uncertainty, crises and disorders. "Interesting times", precisely, like the ones we are experiencing.

The 58th Exhibition is curated by Ralph Rugoff, current director of the Hayward Gallery in London. He began his career as a critic and essayist before he began working as an independent curator.

Collateral events

This year’s edition features 21 collateral events scattered across the city of Venice. For more details, visit: https://www.labiennale.org/en/art/2019/collateral-events
